Excessive sweating treatment with Botox

Treatment for hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating with Botox injections in Chester.

Hyperhidrosis is a state of excessive sweating that interferes with daily activities that effects:

  • Armpits

  • Palms of your hands

  • Soles of your feet

  • Face and chest

  • Groin

Both sides of the body are usually affected equally – for example, both feet or both hands. When clinical strength antiperspirants do not work well enough, ask your doctor if BOTOX® could be right for you.

Causes of hyperhidrosis.

Most experts believe that primary hyperhidrosis is caused by problems with the sympathetic nervous system. Secondary hyperhidrosis is caused by an underlying condition. The sympathetic nervous system uses sweat like a thermostat. If it senses that you are getting too hot, it will send a signal from your brain to the millions of sweat glands in your body to produce sweat. The sweat cools on your skin and reduces the temperature of your body. Sweat glands, known as the Eccrine glands, appear to be involved in hyperhidrosis. Eccrine glands are present in the greatest numbers on your armpits, hands, feet, and face, which may explain why these areas are often affected by hyperhidrosis. BOTOX® is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to treat the symptoms of severe underarm sweating when medicines used on the skin do not work well enough. Temporarily blocks chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don't receive chemical signals, the excessive sweating stops.

Where Does the Sweat Go?

People who need BOTOX® for SPAHH that is inadequately managed by topical agents have overactive sweat glands in their underarms. BOTOX® neurotoxin injections temporarily stop the production of sweat in the treated areas only. Sweat continues to be produced elsewhere. Your sweat doesn’t go anywhere else or get backed up because the sweat simply isn’t produced in the areas treated with BOTOX®. The rest of your body is free to release moisture normally. If you were to stop BOTOX® treatment, or when it wears off months later, the sweating function returns to the same level you experienced before starting treatment.
