Glycolic Acid Peels, Facial Peels and Chemical Skin-Resurfacing at Chester Laser Clinic

Glycolic acid peels are very useful for freshening and rejuvenation of the skin. Glycolic acid peels improve skin texture, shallowness, mottled pigmentation, fine lines, and acne. Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). These are naturally occurring, non-toxic, organic acids. In high concentration (40-70%) they are useful as superficial peeling agents. A chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to peel away the top layers. The skin that grows back after a chemical peel is smoother and younger-looking. Chemical peels are used to treat wrinkles, skin discoloration, and scars — typically on the face. A chemical peel can be done alone or in combination with other cosmetic procedures.

Chemical peels can be used for the following conditions:

  • Facial rejuvenation

  • Acne treatment

  • Acne marking

  • Ageing skin

  • Sun damage

Medical Modalities, we can enhance results with:

  • Microdermabrasion

  • Ultrasound

  • IPL

  • LED

  • Non-ablative and fractionated laser

  • Erb:YAG and CO2 laser resurfacing

Safe and Natural Peeling

Since they produce only a superficial peel, glycolic acid peels have a very good safety profile. Initially, there will be some redness, which normally resolves within a few hours. There is potential for lightening or darkening of the skin, but this rarely occurs. Some patients experience no redness; the occasional patient will develop more pronounced redness, swelling, and crusting. A mild topical steroid cream may be applied, and the reaction will subside.

The Chemical Peel Procedure

The procedure begins with a consultation, where we examine your skin and explain the process of preparing your skin for a peel. Following this, you will need to prep your skin for a period of two weeks before coming in to the clinic for the full peel treatment with us. Most patients return home to normal activities, or return to work immediately after the peel. Minor adjustment in cosmetics and care of the skin is required following the peel. Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun for several weeks after the peel. Regular sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) use is required.
